Things to do with the kids – Saturday Morning Cinema

October 30th, 2010 · 5 Comments · things to do with the kids

As winter draws in and outdoor pursuits become less attractive, we are likely to be found more frequently at our local Cineworld cinema who screen “Movies for Juniors” on Saturday morning with an entrance fee of only £1 per adult or child: a bargain by any standard. (But beware, the cost of their snacks and refreshments soon pocketed my saving.)

Today we watched “Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs“. Oliver has seen it before but still enjoyed it greatly, chomping away on popcorn and telling me what was going to happen. Lucy was less interested but munched a few Starburst before sitting/lying on my knee and feeding me popcorn.

I enjoyed seeing them laugh at the movie. I even enjoyed the terrible puns of the female lead and laughed out loud myself.

All in all a cheap, fun way to spend a Saturday morning.

There is a similar deal over here in Hudds that I take advantage of on occasion. It's always old films, but the kids don't care.

Love the book but have yet to see the movie. Is it appropriate for a 3yo?

In the UK it has a "U" classification from the BBFC, where U stands for "universal". However the BBFC states: "A ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. However, it is impossible to predict what might upset a particular child, especially at this lower end of the category range."

All I can say is that I took my 3yo daughter and she was fine with it. There are some scenes of storms and resulting devastation which could be scary in a loud cinema, particularly if in 3D, but we watched the 2D version and my 3yo was fine with it all.

I hadn't realised it was a book originally. I'll have to check it out.
